The Akua'ba Doll is a symbol of fertility for the Ashanti people of Ghana. The origin of the dolls have many stories. It is said that the first doll was created by an Ashanti medicine man who handmade it for a woman who came to him with fertility issues. He carved the doll out of a special wood from a specific tree that holds the properties of this medicine. He carved lines and symbols and Fixed it up with herbs and corresponding materials. Then he gave the doll to the woman and said to carry it on her back wrapped like a baby until the day she was finally pregnant. No two Akua'ba Dolls are alike. They vary in shape, and sizes. They each have unique carved lines and symbols. Each doll is unique just like each child is unique.
