This collection of plant focused ritual tools and art is designed to invoke Hekate in her role as the mother of witchcraft and her mastery over plants to both heal and harm. Some of the plants featured have traditional connections to Hekate, and others while not traditionally associated with Hekate, I’ve found them to work well within a Hekatean context.

CHTHONIA. An oil worn daily in honour and reverence of HEKATE in her chthonic, Dark Mother form. Vetiver, Black Pepper, Myrrh, Styrax, Cinnamon and Poppy merge to create a seemingly intoxicating aroma that pulls you deep into the earth. Birthed through dedication, enlivened through incantations to The One Who Bares The Torch, the Dark Mother Hekate of the Three Ways.
Bringing this offering to life has taken several years, as I heard the call to make an oil of dedication like this, but it was a task I did not take lightly. There are many perfume type oils out there named after Hekate. This one had to carry the sensory essence of how Hekate enters our ritual space. How she has been present for me over the last 7 years of working so intimately with Her; the feeling of comfort she offers and the yurning to dive deeply into Her ever unfolding mysteries as the Mother of Witches.
It is in her epitaph as Chthonia that she has brought me through my darkest places of shadow and supported me in remembering my Light. She has shown me the way to communing with my ancestors and taught me that death does not mean the end but is a gift of deep alliances with those who have gone before us. I hope this offering opens the way to Her, so that she may wrap her arms around you in your time of need.
